Bib chips are becoming more and more common. Of course we do almost all of our running races with the Jaguar G-Chip, a disposable bib chip. Unlike other bib chips that are built into the bib itself, ours will affix to almost any bib.
So what is new at Boston for 2011?
A three wave start:
New, third wave will create a more orderly start and implementation will not increase field size of 2011 race.
HOPKINTON, Mass. – The B.A.A. will employ a third wave for the start of the 2011 Boston Marathon, creating a more efficient and improved running experience for participants in the 115th edition of the world’s oldest and most prestigious annual marathon. This year’s race will be held on Monday, April 18: Patriots’ Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Also new for next month’s Boston Marathon, the timing and scoring device will be affixed to each official entrant’s bib. Beginning in 1996 and continuing until last year, runners in the Boston Marathon were required to affix the timing and scoring device to their footwear.
This is significant as Boston has long been the innovator on using new ideas in timing and they will I believe be using the mylaps bib chip.
Awesome that our area races like the recent Calvin Winter Blast and C’Ville Chill, as well as this months Running for Hope will all be using a disposable bib chip before Boston does. MichianaTiming.com’s timing system puts our customers and their event participants on the front edge of the current improvements in the RFID chip timing industry. We provide a premium race experience and you don’t need to travel to Boston to experience it.
